As social media continues to be a large part of our digital world, we see more and more variety and innovation as time goes on. Remember when Facebook and Myspace were the only social networks? Now there are so many ways to connect to your target audience through affordable social media marketing. These are a few types of platforms and features you can utilize.
Social Audio Platforms
Apps like Clubhouse and features like Twitter Spaces allow users to listen to live conversations on topics that interest them.
We saw more platforms integrating social audio after the start of the pandemic when events were canceled and people had more time at home to listen in. Even though almost everyone is back at work, there is still a time and a place for these apps. The biggest advantage about these platforms is that people are more intentional about listening and there is higher engagement. Use these platforms when you have big announcements, want to host a panel of experts, showcase your thought leadership, or host an interview.
Video Social Media Platforms
Youtube and TikTok were created with video in mind while Facebook and Instagram jumped on board with Stories and Reels.
Video content captures attention better than photo or just text does. These platforms are great for long or short form video. Any video you create should be educational, entertaining, or inspiring because promotional videos don’t perform well with users. Share your insight in videos to increase engagement with your brand.
Disappearing Content Platforms
Snapchat was one of the first platforms about sharing content that disappears after 24 hours, but now Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn all have a Stories feature too.
It may seem like this type of content wouldn’t serve your business, but you would be surprised! Stories and Snapchats are seen as more genuine and can humanize your business. Those short videos are best suited for in-the-moment announcements, live events, and limited edition releases.
Shoppable Platforms and Features
With the e-commerce industry growing, almost every major platform has a shopping feature including, Pinterest, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and more.
Many social media platforms are trying to make it easier for users to shop in app and reduce how often they click out of the app. Take advantage of this and create a shop in the platform you do most of your social media posting. Even if your audience doesn’t prefer to shop in the app it allows you to tag the product and make it easy for them to do more research.
Twitch is the only platform that is entirely built around live streams but you can now go live on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.
Live streams can be casual or organized and orchestrated events. Users can engage with the hosts of the live stream and can be used to interview people from different locations. Live streams gained popularity during the pandemic like audio only platforms but you can use them anytime you would like to share your knowledge.
